Maximizing Linked In for Recruitment
LinkedIn is a rapidly growing professional social media platform — ripe for highlighting your institution and engaging with prospective families, donors, and employees. This session will cover the basic LinkedIn best practices for schools, with a focus on appealing to potential employees.
Having the Hard Conversation: Non-renewals, Terminations & Discipline
LinkedIn is a Ending or not renewing an employment relationship is among the hardest conversations a schoo leader has, and how it is handles shapes both the departing employee’s experience and the school’s legal exposure. This session will address practical and legal considerations when managing difficult employment decisions, including employee discipline, non-renewal of contracts, and termination. Participants will explore how to prepare for and conduct these conversations with clarity, consistency, and professionalism while reducing risk and preserving school values.
SPEAKERS
Christopher L. Brigham, a Shareholder and Chairman of the Employment Law Practices Group and the School Law Practice Group with Updike, Kelly & Spellacy, focuses his practice on representing and counseling schools and businesses with respect to workplace and employment law issues. His School Law practice is focused on advising independent schools on matters such as school investigations, student discipline, mandated reporting obligations and compliance with federal and state law. Chris also assists independent schools in the development of enrollment contracts, employment agreements, school policies and handbooks for faculty, employees and students. He also conducts independent investigations at the secondary school level and Title IX investigations for universities and colleges. Through this work, Chris represents and counsels clients on matters before the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission, State Commissions on Human Rights and Opportunities, the Department of Labor and the Workers’ Compensation Commission. Of particular note, Chris counsels clients about issues facing employers during all stages of the employment relationship including but not limited to the hiring, disciplinary and termination processes. Chris conducts human resource audits to ensure that employment policies and procedures are in compliance with the most recent state and federal laws pertaining to wage and hour issues and equal employment opportunities. He also conducts internal investigations involving all forms of workplace disputes and claims of discrimination and/or sexual harassment.
Angie Ward brings 18 years of expertise to school leadership, specializing in identifying enrollment marketing challenges and building strategic digital campaigns that deliver measurable growth. With a passion for marketing strategy and analytics, she has partnered with over 300 colleges, universities, K-12 institutions, and camps to implement results-driven marketing solutions.
In 2018, Angie co-founded Enroll Media to establish an agency exclusively dedicated to the unique challenges of digital marketing for independent schools. When she isn’t navigating the latest Google algorithm shifts to keep her clients ahead of the curve, she spends most of her time with her family and friends (especially her kids and chickens!) and enjoying all that her home state of Massachusetts has to offer.
